Job Description
Our Damages/Cost Estimation group provides expert litigation support services to attorneys on construction matters including but not limited to construction defect claims, fire loss claims, and contract disputes. Our team is comprised of qualified cost experts who perform construction estimates utilizing industry standard estimating techniques.
We are looking for a Senior level Construction Estimation Expert with prior experience as an Expert Witness testifying on damages and repair cost related to construction defect cases. We provide a team of Damages consultants to support our Experts. Litigation matters can be related to construction defect cases and standard of care on a variety of residential, commercial, and mixed-use buildings.
Responsibilities
- Testify as an expert witness in court or arbitration regarding your cost estimating opinions in dispute resolution proceedings.
- Develop cost of repair estimates for scopes of work (typically cladding, framing, foundation, flatwork, civil, roofing, MEP, and interior scopes of work) based on engineering report recommendations for reconstruction projects.
- Manage multiple client matters involving construction defect claims and disputes.
- Analyze construction plans, documents, and contracts to understand responsibilities and allocate costs to responsible parties.
- Attend site inspections to document observable conditions.
- Perform/review electronic quantity takeoffs for accuracy.
- Utilize pricing databases (Xactimate/RS Means) to determine unit costs for repairs.
- Draft expert reports detailing cost estimating strategies and cost allocations.
- Maintain knowledge of trends in the field and collaborate with team members.
- Coordinate with team members and provide technical review of work products.
- Monitor progress and ensure high-quality work output.
- Support performance monitoring and meet utilization goals.
- Travel as needed to support clients and team.
- Perform quality control and provide feedback for improvement.
Operations
- Support organizational goals and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Prioritize tasks to meet profit objectives.
- Participate in team-building and cross-functional cooperation.
- Complete tasks according to contract requirements and alert management of issues.
- Ensure high quality on all deliverables.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 15 years of experience.
- Experience testifying as an Expert Witness in construction damages or cost cases.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings and perform estimates for various structures.
- Proficiency in estimating software (Xactimate, Bluebeam, RSMeans).
- Experience in business development and client management.
