The General Manager is a polished, well-spoken, and well-regarded ambassador who carries a strong vision for their hotel. He or she is responsible for all aspects of operations for their assigned property, providing support, supervision, and guidance to management team members and front-line associates. The General Manager will ensure financial performance is optimized, high-quality product and service levels are maintained, and the hotel complies with all relevant regulations, as well as company and brand standards.
Key responsibilities include establishing priorities, leading operational initiatives such as sales planning and budget development, and overseeing physical property improvements. The role requires hands-on leadership to maximize revenue and control expenses. The General Manager acts as the primary communication link with guests, clients, staff, ownership, corporate and brand representatives, and key vendors.
Exempt managers typically direct at least 2 full-time associates or their equivalents and spend more than 50% of their time on administrative, executive, or professional tasks involving discretion and independent judgment.
