About the Position:Our client, a sophisticated national law firm, is seeking a maritime regulatory/compliance lawyer to join its Chicago office as an Associate. The person in this position will work closely with attorneys in the firm's Technology, Manufacturing & Transportation business unit to advise on the regulatory components of maritime law, catering to companies that manage diverse shipping operations, including those with in-house fleets as well as those who rely on outsourced or third-party fleets.

Responsibilities:· Handle a range of legal matters connected to ocean vessel transit and port operations· Ensure regulatory compliance with ocean freight laws· Assist with resolving disputes, including those involving detention and demurrage charges
Required Qualifications:· 4+ years of experience with maritime regulatory compliance and licensing requirements· Experience working with the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC)· Strong knowledge of the intricacies of commerce by sea and new and evolving FMC regulations· Understanding of legal and regulatory challenges specific to the transportation and logistics industries· Excellent academic credentials
Location:Chicago, IL, Boston, MA, or Washington, DC (Hybrid)
Compensation:The anticipated base compensation for this position is $225,000 – $275,000.
