Nature of Work

Plans, organizes, coordinates, directs, and manages the operations and activities for the City's Transit Operations.

Environmental and Physical Factors

Work is performed in an office environment, occasionally in transit vehicles and traffic environments. Physical demands are light, mostly desk work, with frequent computer use.

Work Situation Factors

The position involves managing competing demands, performing multiple tasks, working to deadlines, occasional after-hours work, and responding to customer issues. Regular attendance is essential, and the position is subject to drug testing per regulations.

Additional Information

First consideration may be given to current City of Las Cruces employees who meet the minimum qualifications. Meeting minimum qualifications does not guarantee participation in the process. This is a full-time, exempt position. The first review of applications will occur on February 24, 2025. The position is classified as grade AD27.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage Transit Operations and department to meet city goals, ensuring safe and effective transit services.
  • Evaluate transit issues, recommend solutions, and improve customer relations and employee conduct.
  • Provide leadership and coordinate with state, federal, and local agencies.
  • Ensure a safe, reliable transit system that adapts to technological advances.
  • Manage staff, delegate tasks, and oversee training programs.
  • Review work progress, analyze functions, and implement improvements.
  • Manage data collection, reporting, and public meetings related to transit operations.
  • Develop and oversee budgets, grants, and compliance.
  • Address customer complaints and serve as liaison to committees and boards.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor's Degree in Social Services, Business or Public Administration, Transportation Policy and Planning, or related field, plus five years of transit system experience, including planning, grant management, and supervision. A combination of education and experience may be considered.

    Licenses/Certifications

    Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    Knowledge of management principles, community services, transit laws and regulations, FTA standards, civil rights, grant management, record keeping, research methods, safety practices, and effective communication. Ability to prioritize tasks, ensure customer satisfaction, maintain confidentiality, communicate effectively, and operate relevant tools and vehicles.
