ABCO Laboratories is a contract manufacturing business that works with customers to make and develop a variety of food seasonings, spices, and dietary supplements.

Summary:

The Purchasing Manager will lead and manage all aspects of purchasing and materials to enable profitable growth. This role involves providing sourcing leadership and management by taking full ownership of procurement and logistics to support the manufacturing department. The manager will plan and execute both short-term and long-term procurement strategies to increase cash profit margins.

The Purchasing Manager will interact with the Managing Director, Production management, Inventory, Sales, R&D, and the Controller. Key responsibilities include identifying suppliers, negotiating programs, building positive relationships, monitoring competitive products and pricing, and possessing procurement buying experience in a food manufacturing setting.

An ideal candidate will have direct dietary ingredient procurement experience, leverage market intelligence for cost reduction and competitive advantage, and demonstrate excellent project management and cross-functional leadership skills. The candidate should be capable of driving implementation plans, problem-solving, handling multiple tasks efficiently, and have knowledge of MRP systems and commodity buying. A bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field, along with 5+ years of relevant procurement management experience in food manufacturing, is required. Strong leadership, independence, project completion ability, flexibility, and multitasking skills are essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, lead, manage, and execute ABCO's strategic sourcing plan, including determining current and long-term requirements.
  • Track progress through weekly management review meetings and participate in business reviews with management and suppliers.
  • Supervise and coordinate purchasing department activities.
  • Provide procurement leadership to ensure best-in-class execution and spend management.
  • Maintain exemplary knowledge of MRP programs, including running reports.
  • Build strong relationships with suppliers and key decision makers.
  • Lead cross-functional projects to establish the supply chain from raw materials sourcing to distribution.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance, R&D, Purchasing, Regulatory, and Supply Chain teams to ensure system and process knowledge.
  • Monitor and evaluate competitive products and pricing.
  • Support new item development requests and qualify opportunities with sales.
  • Manage opportunity buys of raw materials when available.
  • Evaluate financial scenarios and advise senior management.
  • Lead efforts to identify and develop reliable, cost-effective manufacturing processes for all products and components.
  • Conduct market research to stay informed about industry trends, market conditions, and suppliers.
  • Integrate forecasts with sales, marketing, operations, and finance to develop procurement plans that improve cash margins.
  • Apply expertise in supply chain, logistics, and operational excellence to optimize spending.

Schedule: Monday - Friday.

Pay Rate: Salary commensurate with experience.
