Description

The Intervention Support Specialist provides technical assistance, training, support, and guidance to local program staff and parents related to integrating disabilities and mental health components in Head Start and Early Head Start programs. The role promotes social/emotional wellbeing, mainstreaming, and inclusive practices for children with disabilities and their families.

This position involves promoting the mission of ABCD Head Start & Children's Services, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and policies, and reporting suspected child abuse or neglect as mandated by law.

Essential Duties
  • Collaborate with staff, families, and community agencies to support children with disabilities, including recruitment, program planning, referrals, assessments, and transition planning.
  • Assess children through observation and provide guidance on educational adaptations and modifications.
  • Support families and staff regarding legal rights, advocacy, and mental health services.
  • Coordinate and facilitate therapeutic and support services, and maintain detailed records and reports.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Assist with administrative tasks, attend meetings and trainings, and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of early childhood special education, social/emotional development, and mental health.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, work collaboratively, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Bilingual ability is preferred where appropriate.
Education & Experience
  • Intervention Support Specialist I: Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field, with coursework in special education, and at least 9 months experience with children with disabilities.
  • Intervention Support Specialist II: Master's Degree in related fields, with coursework in special education, and at least 9 months experience with children with disabilities.
