The Vice-Dean of Clinical Affairs serves as an executive leader responsible for strategic and operational oversight of clinical affairs across the Icahn School of Medicine and the Mount Sinai Health System. The Vice-Dean of Clinical Affairs in partnership with the Dean of Clinical Affairs and the Chief Administrative Officer is responsible for fostering streamlined communication, efficient business operations, personnel management, faculty affairs, industry engagement and conflicts of interest, participating in the ISMMS budget process, and enhanced coordination of clinical affairs in the ISMMS. This role focuses on optimizing clinical operations, guiding administrative leadership, fostering institutional integration, and driving performance improvement across the clinical enterprise. The Vice-Dean works closely with the Dean of Faculty Affairs, Research and Education, the Department chairs, Administrators, hospital leadership, and faculty to support the delivery of high-quality, efficient, and mission-aligned clinical care. The Vice Dean of Clinical Affairs will report directly to the Dean of Clinical Affairs and have a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Chief Administrative Officer of the Mount Sinai Health System and work closely with other senior-level executives.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership & Integration

• Drive initiatives to integrate clinical operations across departments and sites, enhancing system-wide efficiency and consistency.

• Collaborate with health system and school leadership to align strategic goals and clinical performance across the enterprise.

• Participate in the design and implementation of a new institutional funds flow model that supports clinical, research, and educational priorities.

Clinical Operations & Administration

• Partner with hospital operations leadership and with department chairs to ensure optimal access, quality, and resource utilization related to clinical operations.

• Work closely with Department Administrators to align operational performance with strategic and financial goals.

• Develop, track, and report on clinical key performance indicators (KPIs), including physician productivity, access metrics, and quality outcomes.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Masters degree in related field required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in clinical operations management, quality improvement, and patient care delivery.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate large teams of clinical faculty.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of healthcare regulations and reimbursement policies.
  • At least ten years of progressively responsible work experience in education, health care, or other related environment. Strong preference for demonstrated experience in an academic medical center setting.
  • Experience in higher-level academic administration.
  • Possesses role model excellence in attitude, compassion, professionalism, and personal behavior.
  • Strong collaborative, organizational, negotiation, time management, and communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable of and experience with interpretation and implementation of complex policies and procedures.

Senior Vice President, Regional Ambulatory Operations MSH Campus

The Senior Vice President of Regional Ambulatory Operations partners with the person in the singular role of Executive Vice President and Chief of Ambulatory Care for the Mount Sinai Health System, Chief Executive Officer of the Mount Sinai Doctors Faculty Practice, and Dean for Ambulatory Operations at Icahn Mount Sinai, the Chief Nursing Officer, Population Health, Marketing, IT, Finance, and physician leaders to execute ambulatory operations, develop strategic priorities, and execute program growth and development. The Senior Vice President of Regional Ambulatory Operations will report directly to the person in the singular role of Executive Vice President and Chief of Ambulatory Care for the Mount Sinai Health System, Chief Executive Officer of the Mount Sinai Doctors Faculty Practice, and Dean for Ambulatory Operations at Sinai and work closely with other senior-level executives.

Operations

  • Oversee Regional Ambulatory Operations leadership to drive performance throughout the ambulatory service line for the designated areas of responsibility.
  • Oversee administrative functions and activities of ambulatory practices including practice standards, policies, procedures, and workflows.
  • Implement and improve patient and provider workflows in collaboration with ambulatory practices and medical directors.
  • Assist in monitoring clinical activities to ensure delivery of cost effective, high quality care.
  • Direct and collaborate on strategic development of ambulatory sites and programs consistent with present and future vision of The Mount Sinai Health System including consolidation and expansion, relocation of services, and program and service line development.
  • Review provider productivity and FPSC rankings with Department Chairs and Administrative Directors
  • In collaboration with clinical service line leaders, create action plans for underproductive physicians
  • Review access metrics and space utilization in order to maximize operational performance
  • Analyze regional ambulatory operational performance, recommend solutions and monitor progress
  • Guide future growth of ambulatory care practices through strategic planning and development
  • In collaboration with center-led finance participate in the annual budget process for each site.
  • Oversee service line performance against budget; identify and develop action plans to mitigate variances or deficits.
  • Create a financially responsible culture via reporting, education, audits, and corrective action plans.
  • Analyze financial performance and productivity, and compare to benchmarks.
  • In collaboration with departmental leads, develop and monitor corrective action plans as necessary.
  • Ensure distribution of monthly performance dashboards specific to each ambulatory regional division.
  • In collaboration with service line leaders, collaborate and participate in center led development and implementation of business plans for new faculty recruitment, assist with on-boarding new physicians and develop/improve workflows: insurance verification, pre-authorizations and referrals.
  • Participate in capital budget process; ensure purchases support operations and growth.
  • Inform and align with center-led revenue cycle group of departmental revenue cycle performance including charge lag, A/R over 120 days, co-pay collections, denial rates, controllable write-offs, time of service cash collections, and medical record requests.

Regulatory

  • Ensure regulatory compliance, maintenance of Joint Commission accreditation, and Department of Health licensure consistent with Article 28 Outpatient Hospital national and state requirements when applicable
  • Ensure successful triennial Joint Commission surveys when applicable
  • Represent regional facilities in any Department of Health, OMIG, and Title XVIII Surveys.
  • Represent facilities in Ambulatory Quality and Strategy Advisory Groups (QSAG).

Patient Satisfaction and Staff Engagement

  • Participate in regional cultural transformation efforts, responsible for daily internal marketing campaign, Executive Champion of staff work teams.
  • Monitor and distribute Press Ganey and CGCAHP scores for ambulatory practices.
  • Respond to patient complaints and concerns and lead service recovery efforts.
