General DescriptionThe Materials Handler will work in their assigned laydown yard and support construction activities, which will include operating light/heavy duty equipment, loading and unloading product, executing standard receiving and shipping processes, providing spotting duties for equipment operators, rigging and cribbing of materials, maintaining inventory in the yard, and quality control duties. DutiesReceives, QA/QC physical checks, counts, and inspects all material delivered against the purchase orderMatches packing list information to actual packed merchandiseUnloads, loads, and stores all materials, including but not limited to, steel poles, anchor bolts/cages, wire reels, and miscellaneous transmission line materialsPulls and issues material per picklistPrepares products, supplies, and equipment for delivery and stages in designated areaLoads and unloads product from trucks and trailersPacks, unpacks, and marks stock items using identification tags, stamps, electronic marking tools, or other labeling equipmentEnsures all inventory is handled and stored safely, according to any requirements and engineering specificationsPerforms on-site material audits to ensure accuracy of inventoryExamines and inspects stock items for wear and tear and rotates yard stockProvides spotting duties for equipment operatorsPerforms rigging and cribbing of all materialsMaintains a safe work environment by following all written safety guidelines and ensures the zone of safety is monitoredInspects all equipment used daily to ensure there is no damage or issues; reports any issues immediately to their supervisorOperates heavy equipment to include, but not limited to, wheel loaders, large/small forklifts, and other heavy lifting equipment (i.e. straddle carriers)Maintains accurate paperwork for record keeping purposesMaintains excellent housekeeping practices in order to promote a safe and clean working environmentAssists with snow removal operations, if neededPerforms any other duties assignedAdheres to internal standards, policies, and proceduresRequired Experience and EducationHigh school diploma (or equivalent)2 years' experience operating heavy equipment within a materials/construction settingCertified Forklift Operator 8K- 55K telescoping lifts (Lull) and skid-steers to lift, move, or place equipment or materials; or the ability to obtain this certification soon upon hirePhysical RequirementsAbility to lift objects weighing at least 50 poundsPreferred Experience and Education 4 years of experience operating heavy equipment within a materials/construction settingSkillsAbility to work well independently, as well as part of a teamStrong problem evaluation/solving skillsAbility to interact effectively and professionally with other team membersStrong organizational and time management skillsStrong communication skills (verbal and written)Strong knowledge of safety best practices employed by the construction industryAbility to work irregular schedule and meet required deadlinesTravel RequirementsTravel: YesPercent of Time: 10%
