Job Description :
Position Type: Support Staff/Teacher Assistant Date Posted: 5/19/2025 Location: Sheldon Early Learning Center Primary Purpose: To support the Lead Infant Teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for infants (ages 6 weeks to 18 months) enrolled in the Sheldon ISD Early Learning Center. The assistant helps with daily care routines, instructional activities, and classroom maintenance in accordance with Texas Childcare Licensing standards and the ELC's learning goals. Qualifications:Education/Certification:
  • High school diploma or GED (required)
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or early childhood coursework (preferred)
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Understanding of infant development, safety, and nurturing techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively with young children, parents, and staff
  • Basic knowledge of diapering, feeding, and infant health practices
  • Patience, reliability, and a caring attitude toward children
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:Child Supervision and Care:
  • Assist with feeding, diapering, soothing, and supervising infants in accordance with individual care plans
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and inviting environment that supports sensory and motor development
  • Observe infants for signs of developmental progress, illness, or distress and report to Lead Teacher
Instructional Support:
  • Help implement age-appropriate activities using the Frog Street Infant Curriculum or other approved resources
  • Engage in floor play, tummy time, songs, and language-rich interactions that stimulate learning
  • Model and support positive social-emotional development
Classroom Maintenance:
  • Sanitize toys, changing areas, cribs, and surfaces according to licensing and center guidelines
  • Help maintain accurate daily records for feedings, naps, diaper changes, and incident reports
  • Assist with arrival and departure routines, including communication with parents
Professionalism and Compliance:
  • Follow Texas Childcare Licensing regulations, district policies, and confidentiality standards
  • Attend staff meetings, training, and professional development sessions
  • Support a positive, team-oriented environment with fellow caregivers and ELC staff
Working Conditions:
  • Frequent bending, lifting (up to 35 lbs), and floor-level interaction with infants
  • Exposure to diapering, feeding materials, and infant bodily fluids
  • Fast-paced, nurturing environment with constant supervision responsibilities *Salary is commensurate with experience *This position cannot be performed remotely Sheldon ISD will accept applications for this position through 06/02/2025.
