Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Assistant Director of Infection Prevention and Control.

In this role, the successful candidate will fulfill the core responsibilities of an Infection Preventionist and will play a key leadership role in the department. This includes the overall coordination of infection prevention activities, education, surveillance, and regulatory compliance within the organization.

The Assistant Director will assist in the daily management and operations of the Infection Prevention Department, oversee IPC initiatives, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and educate hospital personnel on infection prevention practices and quality processes.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Interact with clinical and non-clinical staff to serve as a resource for infection prevention.
  • Provide interim leadership and departmental coverage as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations by TJC, CMS, OSHA, CDC, and local/state agencies.
  • Review and revise policies and guidelines to align with best practices.
  • Collaborate with hospital committees to implement infection risk reduction strategies.
  • Support regulatory inspections and ensure hospital-wide compliance.
  • Standardize materials and processes with procedural areas.
  • Assist with data collection and reporting for infection control and quality committees.
  • Support infection control aspects of hospital construction, renovation, and workflows.
  • Oversee investigations of outbreaks and manage epidemiologically significant events.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness activities related to infection prevention.
  • Ensure safety, quality, and proper recordkeeping standards are met.
  • Supervise investigations into reprocessing failures and transmission events, developing corrective actions.
  • Promote ongoing education and professional development in infection prevention.
  • Model best practices and professional conduct to foster a culture of safety and quality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet operational needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Public Administration, or related field with 5+ years of progressive infection prevention experience, or Bachelors degree with 7+ years of such experience.
  • New York State Nursing License with current registration, if applicable.
  • Active certification from the Certification Board of Infection Control (CBIC).
  • Advanced MS Office skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency with surveillance systems and data analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory standards including TJC, CMS, OSHA, CDC, and NYSDOH.
  • Leadership and process improvement skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact effectively at all organizational levels.
