DPW Laborer II On-Call (Full Time with benefits)

JOB SUMMARY

A Laborer II performs skilled manual work in the division as assigned. May operate motor equipment in the performance of job duties. Performs routine tasks independently.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Occasionally read water meters for billing purposes

Answer service calls, and install, test, repair, remove, and/or exchange water meters

Operates a truck with available attachments in order to haul materials, rubbish, or snow

Operates smaller tractors with/without attachments for lawn mowing/snow removal maintenance

Repairs water mains and sewers, make water and sewer taps, clean sewers and catch basins

Repair and maintain fire hydrants

Paint traffic markings on curbs and street

Repair and maintain roads

Perform cement finishing work which includes sidewalks, manholes, catch basins & lay or repair curbs

Perform snow removal of roads/sidewalks

Trim and remove trees and perform stump grinding.

Job Qualifications:

Operates heavy equipment in emergency situations

Complete necessary daily reports

Assist City buildings with light building maintenance

Performs other related work as assigned

Required Education and Experience:

High School diploma or GED.

Must possess and maintain a valid State of Michigan operator's license

City will assist new hire to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) during his/her probationary period.

Physical Activities:

Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally

Exerting up to 50 pounds of force frequently

Exerting up to 20 pounds of force constantly.

Bending, stooping, lifting to move objects

Reaching, and working with hands to lift

Balance

Working Conditions/Environmental:

Tasks are performed both inside and outside environmental conditions.
