RESIDENCE: Residence is required for all positions. Applicants must show ninety (90) days of continuous residence in Buffalo prior to application, except for the Buffalo Police Entry Level Examination. The city's ordinances mandate continuous residency during employment unless exempt under state law.

Distinguishing Features of the Class: The incumbent is responsible for implementing the City of Buffalo's Gun Violence Prevention program, overseeing its development in coordination with local, state, federal agencies, and community stakeholders, focusing on evidence-based strategies to reduce gun violence.

Examples of work (Illustration Only):

  • Develops and implements evidence-based gun violence prevention strategies in collaboration with various agencies and community groups.
  • Maintains resources and conducts public education on risk protection orders, firearm safety, mental health resources, and gun violence awareness.
  • Engages with communities to gather information and develop prevention strategies.
  • Reviews laws and policies, conducts research, and seeks grants to support prevention efforts.
  • Coordinates data collection and research to identify gaps and improve strategies.
  • Coordinates behavioral health resources and conducts public training on violence prevention.
  • Creates and maintains an online resource bank with updated data and information.
  • Performs related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

(A) Bachelor's degree or higher in Law Enforcement, Public Relations, Social Work, or related field from an accredited institution.

OR

(B) Equivalent training and experience as determined by the Commissioner of Human Resources.

Additional Information:

  • Ability to develop evidence-based strategies and work with diverse groups.
