  • A valid New Mexico Public Education Department K-12 Special Education Teaching License

  • Excellent communication skills- oral and written
  • Positive interpersonal skills
  • Professional verification of successful classroom teacher performance and/or student teaching experience
  • Evidence of the willingness and the ability to comply with the standards for ethical and professional performance established by the Board of Education
  • Exhibit skills to foster positive human relationships and the ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, and the community
  • Willingness and demonstrated abilities conducive to a continuous quest for quality education
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Work with students one-on-one or in small groups to affect behavior changes
  • Evaluate students' needs and provide interventions to redirect behavior
  • Implement behavioral programs designed to make positive and appropriate changes
  • Assess crisis situations and defuse situations using conflict resolution and crisis management techniques
  • Reinforce appropriate behaviors and redirect negative behaviors
  • Provide values clarification including rules, expectations and consequences
  • Implement consequences for inappropriate behavior
  • With proper training, physically restrain students if necessary for safety
  • Communication/Consultation
  • Work with staff to develop an effective program of activities for changing unacceptable behavior ofstudents
  • Provide information to parents, guardians, or other care providers concerning action of student
  • Ensure consistency of behavioral standards by coordinating with appropriate student contacts
  • Monitor physical and emotional changes in students
  • Consult with teachers, support staff, and administrators to obtain information and advice on prior behavior problems, and provide information as necessary concerning behavioral concerns
