Overview
The Chief Engineer oversees the daily operations of the engineering department.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement plans to maintain property, equipment, grounds, and assets in safe and acceptable condition.Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.Supervise and train engineering staff in customer service, standard operating procedures, and loss prevention.Create and manage staff schedules.Develop and adhere to the departmental budget.Participate in financial forecasting and monthly profit/loss reviews.Implement preventative maintenance programs for hotel equipment.Inspect, test, and certify emergency and life safety systems per standards.Participate in energy conservation initiatives.Address guest and meeting planner feedback promptly to resolve issues.Ensure ADA compliance.Administer vendor contracts related to engineering.Handle room maintenance requests efficiently and courteously.Respond immediately to alarms, assess situations, and take necessary actions.Assist with projects and renovations as needed.Support hotel safety programs and participate in safety committees.Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years supervisory or lead mechanic experience in a hotel or related field, or 1 year with a technical certificate.
- Stationary engineer's license if required locally.
- Skills in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boiler operations, and general maintenance.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to work long hours and perform heavy physical work.
- Maintain a friendly, professional demeanor at all times.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
- Participate in hotel meetings, trainings, and on-duty coverage as required.
- Maintain attendance and personal grooming standards.
- Adhere to hotel safety and operational standards.
- Problem-solving skills and ability to handle confidential information.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
