Overview

The Chief Engineer oversees the daily operations of the engineering department.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement plans to maintain property, equipment, grounds, and assets in safe and acceptable condition.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Supervise and train engineering staff in customer service, standard operating procedures, and loss prevention.
  • Create and manage staff schedules.
  • Develop and adhere to the departmental budget.
  • Participate in financial forecasting and monthly profit/loss reviews.
  • Implement preventative maintenance programs for hotel equipment.
  • Inspect, test, and certify emergency and life safety systems per standards.
  • Participate in energy conservation initiatives.
  • Address guest and meeting planner feedback promptly to resolve issues.
  • Ensure ADA compliance.
  • Administer vendor contracts related to engineering.
  • Handle room maintenance requests efficiently and courteously.
  • Respond immediately to alarms, assess situations, and take necessary actions.
  • Assist with projects and renovations as needed.
  • Support hotel safety programs and participate in safety committees.
  • Qualifications
    • Minimum 3 years supervisory or lead mechanic experience in a hotel or related field, or 1 year with a technical certificate.
    • Stationary engineer's license if required locally.
    • Skills in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boiler operations, and general maintenance.
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Ability to work long hours and perform heavy physical work.
    • Maintain a friendly, professional demeanor at all times.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
    • Participate in hotel meetings, trainings, and on-duty coverage as required.
    • Maintain attendance and personal grooming standards.
    • Adhere to hotel safety and operational standards.
    • Problem-solving skills and ability to handle confidential information.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
