The Senior Director of Protein Sciences and Structural Biology will expand our research in structural biology and biophysics. This on-site role at our San Diego research facility requires expertise in these fields to guide drug discovery programs and provide molecular insights for developing novel therapeutics. The individual will lead a team of structural biologists to determine high-resolution structures of key targets, protein-ligand and protein-protein interactions, and mechanisms of action. They will apply their scientific acumen to identify project needs and strategically advance efforts.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead and mentor a team specializing in structural biology and biophysics, fostering collaboration.Develop strategies leveraging structural biology for target validation, mechanism studies, and drug discovery.Champion and apply new structural biology and biophysical technologies to advance projects, including MoA and binding site identification.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive drug discovery from target selection to clinical candidate delivery.Perform hands-on experimental troubleshooting and methods development in biophysical assays and structure determination.Stay current with advancements, integrating new methodologies into the research process.Propose and develop data analysis tools, maintaining high standards for data integrity and documentation.Ensure regulatory compliance, accurate record-keeping, and promote scientific rigor and integrity.Required Education and Experience
- Ph.D. in Structural Biology, Biophysics, or related field with 11+ years of industry or academic experience, including 5+ years managing a team.
- Alternatively, a Master's degree with 15+ years or a Bachelor's degree with 20+ years of relevant experience.
- Extensive experience in biotech, pharma, or academic research, with a proven leadership record in structural biology and biophysics.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong reputation and impact in driving drug discovery through structural biology and biophysics, including MoA and target characterization.
- Experience with membrane proteins is highly desirable.
- Proven leadership, team management, and fostering innovation and inclusion.

- Excellent communication skills for articulating goals and results.
