DescriptionPosition SummaryThe driver is primarily responsible for safely transporting all passengers to and from Lawndale Christian Health Center (LCHC) sites, and, on all LCHC business related trips while maintaining compliance with all applicable laws, regulatory and organizational standards. Transported passengers include (but are not limited to) patients, clients of the Senior Center or Fitness Center, staff and volunteers. The base hourly range is $17.20 - $19.35. Compensation will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualification, skills, competencies and years of experience. Principal Duties and Responsibilities*
Uses knowledge of the Chicagoland area and route navigation apps to safely transport passengers in a timely mannerMaintains a positive and professional attitude toward all passengers, LCHC staff, and proximate drivers or pedestriansMaintains the confidentiality of all participants' personal and medical informationEnsures that the vehicle is always clean and in proper working conditionDetermines and follows safe and efficient driving routesCompletes routine vehicle inspections, reporting any conditions of concern to the Transportation ManagerMaintains all transportation records required by the program including preparing and submitting reports that may include vehicle use, maintenance, and repairsRefuels vehicle and transports vehicle to and from maintenance and/or repair facilitiesAbides by all road and safety regulations set forth in the LCHC Transportation Manual, driver trainings, and Illinois Rules of the RoadAssures that medical emergency procedures are followed in case of emergency or accident Attends and participates in Lawndale Christian Health Center's pre-service and in-service trainings, and other continuing education, career and professional development opportunities Attends ongoing transportation trainings as neededOther duties as assigned by the Transportation ManagerRequired Skills or Abilities*Communicating with passengers and/or caregivers/legal representatives, coworkers, and supervisors: Providing accurate, clear, and concise information by telephone, in writing form, e-mail, or in personActive Listening: Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate time.Speaking: Talk to others to convey information effectivelyCritical Thinking: Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problemsMaking Decisions and Problem Solving: Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution to solve problem.Time Management: Managing one's own time and the time of otherOrganizing, Planning, and Prioritizing Work: Develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish task.Assisting and Caring for Others: Providing personal assistance, medical attention, emotional support, or other personal care to others such as passengers, caregivers/legal representatives, and coworkersRequired Knowledge, Experience, or Licensure/RegistrationKnowledge:Transportation: a. Knowledge of principles and methods for transporting passengers including relevant cost/benefits; an understanding of the Chicago grid system is requiredCustomer and Personal Service: a. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services (including needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction)Cultural Sensitivity: a. Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and Lawndale Christian Health Center and all its affiliationsSociology and Anthropology: a. Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences, ethnicity, cultures and their history originsLanguage: a. Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules or composition, and grammarb. fluency in Spanish is preferredAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, memosMaintain knowledge of first-aid proceduresExperience, Licensure/Registration:a) Be 21 years of age or olderb) Have a valid and properly classified (Class D) driver's license issued by the Illinois Secretary of State.I. Have had a valid driver's license, not necessarily of the same classification, three years prior to the date of applicationII. Preferred two (2) years of experience as driver of shuttle van or a busIII. Preferred experience transporting and/or working with older adults in a healthcare, or related, setting.c)Demonstrate ability to exercise reasonable care in the safe operation of the vehicled)Clear national background checks (fingerprinting) and drug screening.e) Not have any of the following within five years of the date of application:I. Suspension or revocation of driver's license, that is driving related, in any jurisdictionII. Greater than ten traffic infractionsIII. Greater than five serious traffic infractionsIV. Greater than five motor vehicle accidentsV. Any combination of serious traffic infractions and accidents f) Not have any of the following within twelve months of the date of application:I. More than two serious traffic infractions of any kindII. More than four traffic infractions of any kind III. More than three motor vehicle accidents g) Must provide copy of current Driving Abstract (at own expense)h) Obtain (prior to starting employment), Medical Examiner's Certificate (LCHC), and register with the Illinois Secretary of State (once done, proof is to be provided to LCHC)i) Carry at all times LCHC issued photo Identification Card (ID)j) CPR and First Aid Certification or must be willing to obtain within 3 months of employment (LCHC)k) Successful Certification through the Illinois Department of Public Health's, Health Care Worker Registry (processed internally LCHC)
