Ponderosa Aviation is a leading contractor in the aerial firefighting industry. Our mission is to provide Air Attack platforms to the Department of the Interior and the US Forest Service. Our fleet of aircraft is instrumental in monitoring wildfires and directing fire suppression efforts from the air. As the Fixed-Base Operator at Safford Regional Airport, we provide comprehensive maintenance services for all aircraft needs.

Role Description

This is a full-time role for an Air Attack Pilot at Ponderosa Aviation. Air Attack missions are flown single-pilot in multi-engine turbine aircraft. Contracts for the fire season will be assigned with a rotating schedule of either 12/12 or 12/2 (days on/days off) for a duration of 90, 120, or 150 days. Contract duty stations are TBD. The Air Attack Pilot will be responsible for the following:

  • Act as Pilot in Command (PIC) of assigned Air Attack aircraft
  • Work cohesively with the Federal or State Air Tactical Group Supervisor
  • Respond to dispatches in a timely manner
  • Staff the Air Attack platform at the assigned Federal Air Tanker base
  • Act in accordance with assigned tanker base policies and procedures
  • Monitor and adhere to Federal duty and flight time limitations
  • Complete all required paperwork and documentation

Qualifications

  • FAA Commercial License with AMEL rating
  • Instrument Rating
  • Ability to hold at least an FAA 2nd-class medical or better
  • Effective communication and decision making skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a dynamic environment

Not required, but preferred:

  • Experience in the Commander 690 or similar (AC90)
  • Experience in aerial firefighting
  • Knowledge of wildfire behavior and fire suppression tactics

Fixed wing (last 12 months): 100

Cross country: 500

Mountainous terrain: 200

Night: 100

Instrument (total): 75

Instrument (Actual): 50

Operations in mountainous terrain is defined as flight at 2500 feet AGL and below in terrain identified as mountainous in 14 CFR 95.11 and depicted in the AIM figure 5-6-2.
