The CPU is tasked with standardizing and consolidating the processes used to ensure the highest levels of sterility and cleanliness are being met for our patients. Utilizing the latest techniques and applying breakthrough technologies, the CPU provides unparalleled support to the Harborview mission of Patients Are First.PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIESPick up and transport soiled instruments, case carts, basins, respiratory items, and patient equipment from all patient care areas to the decontamination area for reprocessingAssemble and set up patient equipment such as IV pumps, vacuum regulators (wall suction), chest pumps, hyper/hypothermia units; test and make minor repairs and adjustments to equipmentLoad and operate semi-automatic cart washer to clean case carts, utility carts, patient chairs, etc.Sterilizer function tests using vacuum, chemical and biological indicatorsLoad autoclave carts and sterilize surgical instrument sets and respiratory equipmentInventory shelves of processed items; rotate trays and products; manage expiration datesLoad and unload linen carts for steam sterilizationDecontaminate all soiled instruments according to Procedure and Policy standardsREQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONSHigh school graduation or equivalentANDOne to two years of experience processing complex trays of surgical instruments and equipmentORequivalent education/experience.ABOUT HARBORVIEW MEDICAL CENTERAs the region's only Level I Trauma center, Harborview Medical Center is well known for innovations and excellence in trauma care and its centers of emphasis: Trauma, Burn, Neurosciences, AIDS/STD CARER, and mentally and medically vulnerable populations.
