Associate Mountmaker (Regular, Part-time)Conservation CenterReporting to the Mountmaking Manager of the Conservation center, the Associate Mountmaker is responsible for fabricating and installing the structures that safely support collections of artworks and artifacts while they are on exhibit. This is a hands-on opportunity with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. LACMA hosts numerous exhibitions, installations, and loans per year from its encyclopedic collection, and is dedicated to the acquisition, conservation, display, and interpretation of these objects.Requirements:* Practical experience in mountmaking for art objects, archeological/natural history objects* Utilizes metal fabrication techniques and operate equipment such as TIG welders, drill presses, milling machines, grinders, oxy-acetylene torches, and bandsaws to create secure and aesthetic display supports.* Ensures precision and attention to detail in all aspects of mountmaking and fabrication.* Follows proper art handling protocols to safely transport, position, and install delicate objects.* Applies conservation practices and standards to ensure the long-term preservation of objects on display.* Plans and organizes work efficiently to meet project deadlines and exhibition schedules.* Lifts and maneuvers heavy objects as required for installation and mountmaking processes.* Communicates effectively and collaborate with curators, art installers, and conservation staff to develop suitable display solutions.* Works both onsite and at offsite locations as needed, adapting to different project requirements and environments.* Adjusts to varying project needs with flexibility and problem-solving skills.* Utilizes computer-based design programs when applicable to enhance mount design and fabricationBenefits:* The expected hourly rate for this Los Angeles, CA based position is $29.00 - $30.00, subject to change.Qualifications:* Bachelor's degree in fine art, jewelry design, industrial arts, or an acceptable equivalent in education and experience.* A minimum of 3 years of Mountmaking experience, with seismic Mountmaking skills preferred.* A minimum of 3 years of artifact handling or collection handling experience, preferably in a museum environment.
