The award-winning Marin County Fair is the County's premier community event with over 120,000 attendees annually. Held over the 4th of July holiday, fairgoers enjoy art, rides, concerts, fair food, shopping, and more.

About The Position

The Department of Cultural Services is seeking temporary staff to work during the Marin County Fair from July 2-6, 2025, with multiple contingent hire positions available.

Duties

This temporary position involves physical labor tasks to support indoor and outdoor events at Marin Center facilities and fairgrounds, including:

  • Setting up and arranging equipment such as furniture, barricades, and portable seating for events
  • Setting up signage and equipment in parking lots
  • Cleaning floors, painting, minor carpentry, and drain unblocking
  • Checking and securing doors and windows
  • Washing windows, walls, and disinfecting restrooms
  • Managing waste, including recycling and composting
  • Using power tools and pressure washers as needed
  • Completing work order forms

Hours are flexible, including early mornings and evenings, with shifts ranging from 4-8 hours. Availability for the fair dates and setup/takedown is required.

About You

The ideal candidate understands janitorial work and setup needs, is a team player, and takes pride in their work. A positive attitude and professionalism are essential.

Knowledge of

  • Building cleaning methods, materials, and chemicals
  • Safety precautions related to cleaning and minor maintenance

Abilities

  • Interpreting charts, sketches, and plans for setup
  • Performing physical tasks requiring coordination and strength
  • Assisting with minor repairs and maintenance
  • Adapting to changing assignments
  • Following instructions and dealing courteously with the public

Minimum Qualifications

One year of custodial experience or two years of part-time custodial or utility work under supervision, demonstrating the relevant skills and knowledge.
