The Underwriter Trainee will learn to effectively evaluate risks and set premium pricing for all lines of business and transaction types found within the BMIC book of business, primarily composed of workers compensation, commercial package, business auto, and inland marine coverage for construction industry clients. The underwriter trainee will work through a training program composed of formal study as well as job shadowing with experienced underwriters to gain a solid fundamental understanding of BMIC's business and processes. Because the success of our company is rooted in teamwork, the way we care about the people we work with and serve, this hybrid role will work in our Raleigh office a minimum of two days with the flexibility of working from home three days a week. Your WORK as an Underwriter Trainee will make a difference by:
- Learn to underwrite and screen all lines and transaction types with a concentration on small account new business submissions within designated authority. Verifies file completeness; requests and follows up for outstanding information
- Learn to properly rate all lines of business in a timely and accurate manner using both automated and manual methods
- Order and evaluate various documents needed in rating and underwriting processes such as risk management reports, motor vehicle reports, loss history reports, financial reports, etc.
- Work with company underwriters in a collaborative fashion to learn the underwriting process. Develop skills necessary for success as an underwriter by working through assigned transactions within a limited authority
Skills to get the JOB done RIGHT:
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant insurance experience
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong PC proficiency
