The RN is responsible for the prevention of illness and injury. They alleviate suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human responses. Advocacy in the care of individuals and families is a key responsibility. The RN is accountable for compliance with all standards of practice and professional development. They promote a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care. The RN assesses, plans, delegates, coordinates, implements, and evaluates nursing care for a group of patients. They serve as a primary nurse and/or accountable nurse as designated. Educating patients and families in health promotion and disease management is essential. Utilization of a working knowledge of pharmacology is necessary for safe medication administration. The RN shares responsibility for productivity and effective resource utilization. They comply with all nursing practice standards and regulatory requirements. Active participation in professional development and mandatory education is required. Integrating nursing research and current evidence into practice is critical. Providing a supportive learning environment for new employees and students is important.
