Senior Computer Operator

Duties Description:

Monitors all system consoles and hardware diagnostic displays (console operations).

Schedules and properly configures production batch workloads (production control).

Operates tape drives and robotic devices (tape processing).

Operates print devices that produce the output from various data processing program runs (print processing).

Performs supervisory responsibilities.

Civil Service examinations are not required under the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide (NY HELPS) Program:

For appointment to the Senior Computer Operator position you must have:

High school or high school equivalency diploma and one year of full-time experience in the operation of large scale/commercial printing equipment, a mainframe or medium to large server, multi-variable print production, or information technology related activities.

Competitive Qualifications:

You must be currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title, eligible under the 55 b/c program, or eligible to transfer to this title under Section 56.2, 70.1 and or 70.4 of the Civil Service Law.

Transfer:

For 52.6, 70.1, or 70.4 transfer to a Senior Computer Operator, salary grade (SG)-14, you must have one year of permanent competitive, or 55-b/55-c service in an approved title for transfer allocated to an SG-12 or above.

Appointments via transfer must not result in second, consecutive transfer with an advancement of more than two S-grades or one M-grade.

1. 7:00am 3:00pm (Mon. Fri.)

2. 3:00pm 11:00pm (Mon. Fri.)

3. 11:00pm 7:00am (Mon. Fri.)

4. 7:00am 7:30pm (Fri. Sat., Sun.)

5. 7:00pm 7:30am (Fri., Sat., Sun.)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrates reliability and dependability under varying shifts and conditions.

Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills.

Demonstrates ability to work in a team environment, willing to take direction, as well as work independently.

Demonstrates ability to maintain production while ensuring quality control standards are continually maintained.

Knowledgeable in the Microsoft Office Suite.
