About the Position We're seeking a Resident Engineer to support large, heavy-civil infrastructure programs-including highways, roads, bridges, transit (including rail and bus), and airport projects delivered through both traditional and alternative methods. You'll be on the front lines of a multi-contract program that involves deep excavation, complex utility coordination, and heavy civil construction in a dense urban environment. This role is ideal for engineers who thrive in the field, have strong instincts for interpreting plans and specs, and want to take ownership of construction oversight, document compliance, and technical problem-solving. You'll monitor contractors' daily work, lead inspection coordination, track quantities for payment, and interface directly with design engineers to identify and resolve discrepancies. If you've supported projects involving deep excavation, slurry walls, or major transit infrastructure-and you're ready to be part of a collaborative, fast-moving team shaping one of the city's most ambitious expansions-this is a chance to make a lasting impact. Experience with digital construction management tools, CPM schedule analysis, and field engineering best practices will set you up for success from day one. This is a long-term, full-time, on-site position located in Manhattan, NY. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Inspect, monitor, and oversee construction field activities to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, and contract documents. Interpret technical drawings and specifications to verify that work is performed in accordance with project requirements.
- Conduct or supervise on-site material testing and review project documents to determine material types, quantities, and quality standards. Track installed quantities, prepare accurate pay estimates, and confirm that materials and procedures meet all contractual and technical standards.
- Identify field discrepancies or document conflicts and initiate appropriate changes to drawings or specifications. Review contractors' daily construction reports for accuracy and completeness, maintain as-constructed drawings, and monitor construction progress relative to the approved project schedule.
- Collaborate closely with the Resident Engineer to report on progress, troubleshoot construction issues, and recommend timely, practical solutions. Serve as a liaison with the engineer of record to resolve field-related design concerns.
- Stay up to date with current industry tools and inspection technologies through research, training, and professional development. Leverage emerging technologies-including GPS and rovers-to improve inspection accuracy and efficiency.
- Provide office engineering support as needed, including preparing and reviewing change order documentation, validating scope, cost, and schedule impacts, and maintaining up-to-date logs for RFIs, submittals, pay applications, and other critical project records.
- Support constructability reviews by offering field-informed insights that help anticipate and resolve potential issues during design and construction.
Attributes
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

- PE license.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- 8+ years' site or resident engineering work experience for large scale (>$500M), complex (multi-site) heavy civil transportation or transit construction projects.
- Experience delivering projects through both traditional and alternative methods (e.g., DBB, DB, CM/GC, P3).
- Strong knowledge of construction codes, safety regulations, and industry standards.
- Proficiency with industry standard project and construction management software (e.g., Procore, Primavera P6, MS Project, etc.).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365 (e.g., Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
