The Psychological Program Director II is responsible for the provision of psychological services with the hospital, including the maintenance of appropriate personnel records and reviews, budget input, and recruitment. The Director provides leadership and oversight to the psychological services provided at Cherry Hospital under the direction of the Clinical Director. The work involves planning, conducting research, directing, implementing and evaluating the psychology program; supervising administratively and technically a staff which includes 7 Senior Psychologists, 13 Staff Psychologists (LPA), 3 Behavioral Programming Specialists and Administrative support staff. This position provides clinical services including the assessment of forensic patients and treatment of patients. This department completes forensic evaluations for capacity to proceed, writing forensic reports and report distribution according to North Carolina statutes, and testifying when called on by the courts for expert testimony. The Director supervises Forensic Psychologists who provide consultation to the Courts and Attorneys regarding forensic patients. Provides instruction and supervision to the Psychology interns from Colleges and Universities, participates in staff trainings and provides clinical training to the hospital staff as requested and approved by the Clinical Director.

  • Thorough knowledge of behavior dynamics and the psychological principles applying to intelligence, aptitude, and personality assessment.

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles of supportive and interpretive therapy, behavior modification, functional assessments and behavioral programming.

  • Thorough knowledge of the forensic areas of psychology needed to serve the agency's clients including knowledge of the NC Court system.

  • Skill in administratively and professionally planning, directing, and coordinating an intensive and diversified program of psychological services, which includes a sizable staff of psychologists and assistants.

Management Prefers:

  • Extensive experience in Forensic Psychology and working with the NC Court System

  • Experience working in an acute inpatient psychiatric setting

  • Experience working in a regional hospital serving a diverse population

  • Specialized training in behavioral analysis

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to convey information in a simple and unambiguous way
