The Property Data Collector inspects residential, commercial, or industrial properties to ensure that property records reflect current and accurate characteristics. Responsibilities include collecting detailed property data, verifying the accuracy of existing data, identifying building uses and features, and recording information using field documents or mobile devices. This position involves working outdoors in various weather conditions, requiring significant walking and driving within the jurisdiction using a personal vehicle. The incumbent typically meets their manager at designated sites and may later work from the local appraisal office, assisting with desktop reviews.
This role contributes to project success by ensuring accurate property data, which impacts property taxes and project timelines. Inaccurate data can cause delays and errors, so the use of appropriate tools and resources is essential. Employees will complete data collection tasks with occasional guidance.

Responsibilities
Walk around properties to examine buildings and determine required characteristics, driving to various locations. Verify property location by matching field data with maps. Measure buildings and perform calculations for properties of various sizes, including interior and exterior inspections. Record property features accurately on field documents or digital devices. Capture clear digital images of properties and improvements. Gather and record cost and sales data, as well as income and expense information. Update data on property conditions and grades. Maintain personal productivity records and complete required documentation. Communicate professionally with property owners and the public, addressing questions and concerns. Investigate properties thoroughly, asking probing questions and researching components. Analyze aerial images for changes and missing data between tax years. Review parcels and perform assessments similar to field evaluations. Utilize multiple monitors and software systems efficiently. Collaborate with team members to ensure data consistency and accuracy. Assist in training new team members and support hearings if required. Adhere to safety and ethical guidelines, working in all weather conditions. Ensure high-quality work within project budgets and communicate effectively with stakeholders. Maintain a courteous demeanor with property owners and resolve issues using established guidelines. Work independently and as part of a team, utilizing available resources effectively. Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED, or equivalent work experience.
- Preferred: Real estate or appraisal experience.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and pay attention to detail.
- Spatial abilities for map reading and locating properties.
- Strong math skills for calculating property dimensions and ratios.
- Reliable transportation, valid drivers license, and personal liability insurance.
- Basic computer skills.
