Position: Power System Modeling & Controls Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated engineer to join our team. This role involves developing advanced modeling and control techniques for electrical systems related to renewables and EV charging assets, ensuring reliable and efficient operation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in power systems and power electronics modeling and controls.
  • Design and develop power system models; perform high-fidelity dynamic simulations.
  • Conduct power flow studies, short circuit, and transient stability analyses for interconnected systems, ensuring compliance with standards.
  • Develop protection and control schemes for electrical infrastructure.
  • Participate in R&D projects, contribute to scientific content, and develop intellectual property.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, manage project progress, and support technology transfer.
  • Translate research findings into reports and presentations for stakeholders.
  • Manage project costs, milestones, and relevance of results.

This position can be remote, based in Houston, TX, or other locations. Compensation depends on skills, experience, location, and market conditions.

Education/Experience:
  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Power Electronics, or related fields.
  • 3+ years in power systems, modeling, analysis, control, or optimization.
  • Proficiency in Python, C, C++ programming.
  • Experience with transmission/distribution modeling, renewable integration, and smart grid tech.
Skills:
  • Expertise in power system modeling tools (e.g., PSS/E, PSCAD, MATLAB/Simulink), EMT and HIL simulations (e.g., ETAP, PowerFactory, OPAL-RT).
  • Strong understanding of power system protection, control, and stability; research experience (publications, patents).
  • Knowledge of industry standards (IEEE, IEC, NERC, FERC); PE license is a plus.
  • Fluent in English; French knowledge is a plus.
