Delta College Career Opportunities Position Information Position Title Parcel/Postal Assistant (On Site - University Center, MI) Employee Group Support Division/Department Post Office StatusPart-time, 29 hrs/week, 52 weeks/year Starting Salary $17.53 - $19.45 per hour: Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience Position Summary Information Position Accountabilities and Essential Functions The successful candidate must demonstrate experience, skills, and commitment to fostering an environment of belonging, diversity, equity and inclusion in students, faculty and staff. POSITION SUMMARY:This position acts as the assistant to the specialist responsible for the daily activities of the post office and shipping receiving operations. The primary responsibilities are: 1. Insuring that all mail is sorted and distributed in a timely and accurate manner. 2. Assuring that all classes of outgoing mail are correctly posted for pick up deadlines and cost effectiveness. 3. Assist in the processing of all incoming and outgoing shipments. 4. Processing all purchase orders using the college's software to ensure that they are checked in for invoicing. 5. Insuring all packages are ready for pick up by a number of shipping vendors, filling out the associated paperwork, preparing and inspecting parcels and contacting vendor. 6. Inspecting all incoming shipments for quality assurance. 7. Receive and investigate inquiries regarding lost/damaged and traceable shipments. 8. Flag and process packages that meet inventory criteria and perform inventory documentation and data entry consistent with asset management procedures. 9. Responsible for the day-to-day operation of web-based asset disposal process including entry and removal of items from the system and documentation associated with buyer transaction and item pickup. 10. Oversee cash drawers for stamp requests and personal shipments. 11. This position will be expected to supervise students and other staff in the absence of other supervision. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
  • Process packages received
  • Process packages outgoing
  • Sort Mail
  • Meter mail
  • Maintain accounts, charging departments for postage and shipments
  • Frontline customer service
  • Direct student and staff workforce
  • Process bulk mailings and asset inventory and disposal records
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Specific certification, training, apprenticeship or experience in addition to high school diploma or GED.
  • Less than 1 year of position related experience
Additional Experiences Considered
  • Experience working in a mail room setting, a UPS store.
  • Some customer service experience.
