Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Logistics to lead and manage all logistics and warehouse operations for our U.S.-based food manufacturing facilities. This role is critical to ensuring the efficient, compliant, and cost-effective movement of materials and finished goods across multiple sites. The successful candidate will oversee internal warehouses, third-party logistics providers, and transportation functions, while designing future-ready logistics strategies to support continued growth.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Warehouse Operations Leadership
- Lead daily operations across internal warehouse facilities, ensuring service levels, quality standards, and productivity expectations are consistently met.
- Manage staffing plans, shift coverage, and labor planning to align with demand fluctuations.
- Maintain inventory accuracy through cycle counts, space optimization, slotting, and material flow improvements.
- Enforce safety protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) across all facilities.
- Oversee receiving, storage (including freezer environments), staging, and outbound order fulfillment.
- Collaborate with planning and procurement teams to align capacity forecasts with labor and space requirements.
Logistics & Transportation Management
- Manage inbound/outbound freight logistics for raw materials and finished goods across four production facilities.
- Lead relationships and performance management with third-party logistics (3PL) providers.
- Oversee internal fleet operations, ensuring compliance with DOT regulations and company safety standards.
- Coordinate international shipments and container movements, including drayage and warehouse transfers.
Process Improvement & Strategy
- Design and implement a comprehensive distribution strategy integrating four operating locations and international logistics.
- Develop and track KPIs for warehouse efficiency, on-time deliveries, order accuracy, and labor utilization.
- Identify and lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction and service enhancement.
Systems & Collaboration
- Support interim inventory and planning tools while preparing for ERP implementation.
- Serve as a logistics lead in ERP selection and rollout processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional departments—production, sales, customer service—to resolve service issues and support fulfillment excellence.
Financial Management & Compliance
- Develop and manage departmental budgets; achieve performance and savings targets.
- Ensure full compliance with DOT requirements, including documentation, inspections, and safety reviews.
Qualifications / Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of progressive supply chain or logistics leadership experience, ideally in the food manufacturing industry.
- Proven track record in logistics operations, warehouse leadership, and team development.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in MS Office; ERP system experience required (implementation experience preferred).
- Familiarity with continuous improvement tools and methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
- Willingness to travel regularly between New Jersey and Long Island locations.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Frequent standing, lifting (up to 25 lbs), bending, and use of arms/hands in warehouse settings.
- Extended periods of desk/computer work.
- Must be able to climb ladders/scaffolding and have visual acuity for safety-sensitive tasks.
- Work takes place in both office and production environments.
