Job Description: Flight Reliability Engineer, System Safety (Starship)

This role focuses on developing safety and reliability models and analyses for various Starship and Super Heavy systems. The Flight Reliability Engineer will collaborate with design, build, and operations teams to ensure the reliability and safety of these vehicles.

Responsibilities:

  • Produce and own reliability analyses: Use methodologies like FMEA/FMECA, fault tree assessment, hazard analyses, statistical analyses, and probabilistic risk assessments.
  • Present safety analysis results: Communicate findings to internal teams and external agencies such as FAA and NASA.
  • Drive actions to completion: Work with teams to implement changes based on analyses.
  • Utilize tracking systems: Monitor technical readiness and ensure analyses are current.
  • Communicate risks: Clearly convey risks to leadership.
  • Support anomaly investigations: Use tools like fault trees, fishbones, and 5 Whys.
  • Influence process implementation: Ensure proper risk management processes are used.
  • Contribute to projects and improvements: Enhance risk management capabilities.
  • Support reviews: Assist with regulatory and customer reviews.
  • Participate in technical reviews: Engage in hardware and procedure assessments.
  • Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
    • 1+ years of experience in reliability or system safety (internships and projects qualify).

    Preferred Skills and Experience:

    • Master's degree in engineering.
    • 3+ years in aerospace engineering (design, analysis, or testing).
    • Experience with SAPHIRE and Minitab.
    • Proficiency in VB, Python, and SQL.
    • Understanding system trades and requirements linkage.
    • Experience with NX or similar CAD software.
    • Ability to interpret schematics from multiple disciplines.
    • Knowledge of FAA/NASA certification processes.

    Additional Requirements:

    • Willingness to travel to SpaceX sites.
    • Availability for long hours and weekends.

    Compensation and Benefits:

    • Salary range varies by level:
    • Level I: $95,000 - $115,000/year
    • Level II: $110,000 - $130,000/year
    • Additional benefits include incentives, bonuses, stock plans, insurance, retirement plans, paid leave, and holidays.
