Corporate Controller - Hybrid - Orange County - Reporting directly to Founder - $175-200k+ base plus profit sharing

Our client is a middle market international company that manufactures and distributes speciality products to the apparel and consumer goods industries.

The Corporate Controller is a new position due to growth and complexity of operations in several countries (not affected by tariffs). It reports directly to the Founder/Chief Operating Officer and will serve as a key member of the managment team.

The company intends to double in size in the next five years and the Corporate Controller is critical in helping to build the accounting and financial structure to support this projected growth.

POSITION SUMMARY & REQUIREMENTS

Position Summary

Our client is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to oversee and manage all accounting functions and responsibilities for their global organization. This role involves managing multiple teams across different time zones, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and maintaining accurate financial records for all entities. The Controller will also oversee payroll operations and work closely with external auditors and the finance team to support financial planning, reporting, and audits.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting Operations

  • Manage and oversee daily operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for all entities within the organization.
  • Maintain a robust system of internal controls to ensure accurate financial reporting and safeguard assets.

Payroll Oversight

  • Supervise payroll operations for all global employees, ensuring compliance with local, state, and international regulations.
  • Work closely with HR and external payroll providers to manage payroll tax filings and resolve payroll-related issues.
  • Work closely with the Accounting Team on consolidation of financial reports across all global entities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with U.S. GAAP and other relevant accounting standards.
  • Collaborate with regional teams to support local financial operations, ensuring adherence to regional accounting and tax requirements.

Audit and Compliance

  • Work closely with the external audit teams in multiple regions to prepare for and ensure timely and successful completion of annual audits. Respond to inquiries, and address any audit findings.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable financial regulations, including tax filings and statutory reporting requirements for all entities.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing global accounting team, fostering collaboration across time zones and cultural differences.
  • Establish and maintain clear goals, KPIs, and performance expectations for the accounting team.
  • Provide training and development opportunities to ensure the team stays current with best practices and regulatory changes.

Process Improvement

Identify opportunities to streamline and automate accounting processes for increased efficiency and accuracy.

Implement best practices in accounting policies, procedures, and systems across the organization.

Strategic Collaboration and Budgeting

Work closely with department leadership to provide department level insights and recommendations based on financial data.

Partner with stakeholders to support strategic decision-making through budgeting processes.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or equivalent preferred).

Experience:

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including managing global accounting functions.
  • Proven track record of managing multi-entity accounting operations.
  • Experience working with external auditors and supporting audit processes.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and international accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems; experience with Salesforce Certinia and payroll systems is a plus.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
