About the opportunity

Shape the Future of Our Global Kubernetes Platform!

We are looking for a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer Principal to take the technical lead for our Cloud Kubernetes Engineering team. This is an opportunity to play a pivotal role in defining how we build, operate, and scale our Kubernetes Service (AKS) platform globally.

We are in the process of consolidating three AKS platforms (~110 clusters) into a unified, streamlined platform (~40 clusters). This is an opportunity to contribute meaningfully by shaping standards, optimizing operations, and influencing the future of how we run Kubernetes at scale.

If you have deep expertise in Kubernetes operations, cloud architecture, and Azure infrastructure, enjoy taking ownership and making an impact, solving complex infrastructure challenges, and thrive in a place where you can design, troubleshoot, and lead, we want to hear from you.

What you'll get to do

Drive AKS Platform Strategy & Influence Direction
  • Help define and shape the technical vision for our AKS platform, ensuring it is scalable, resilient, and future-proof.
  • Have a direct say in how our global Kubernetes platform evolves, helping to define and implement best practices, and influencing decision-making.
  • Assist with defining and enforcing AKS platform standards while also implementing dictated standards where required.
  • Drive the consolidation effort, ensuring a smooth transition from 110 clusters to 40 without sacrificing performance or reliability.
  • Work closely with platform leadership, security teams, infra engineering teams, and other stakeholders to align Kubernetes strategies with business needs.
  • Explain concepts and work with stakeholders and internal customers.
Lead Kubernetes Technical Operations & Proactive Problem-Solving
  • Ensure AKS clusters are consistently up to date, secure, and in sync, minimizing drift across environments.
  • Identify potential scaling, security, or operational risks before they become issues, and proactively implement solutions.
  • Lead incident response, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis for AKS-related issues.
  • Optimize monitoring, logging, and alerting strategies for improved visibility and proactive problem resolution.
Automation & Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
  • Lead the automation of cluster lifecycle management, including provisioning, scaling, upgrades, and decommissioning.
  • Improve and standardize Infrastructure as Code (IaC) implementations using Terraform, ArgoCD, and GitHub workflows.
  • Optimize CI/CD pipelines and GitOps workflows to streamline Kubernetes deployments.
  • Drive consistency in cloud resource provisioning and AKS configurations across all environments.
  • Define clear migration strategies that minimize downtime and operational risk.
  • Provide technical mentorship to the Kubernetes team, fostering a culture of learning and innovation.
  • Be an effective communicator, able to articulate technical decisions and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure AKS platform adoption and adherence to best practices.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends and drive continuous improvement initiatives for our Kubernetes platform.
  • Assist with the onboarding of containerized applications and microservices.

Skills and experience we value

  • 10+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure design and implementation, with deep expertise in Azure cloud architecture.
  • 8+ years of hands-on in-depth experience managing Kubernetes in dev/qa/prod, including deep troubleshooting of platform and workloads.
  • Expert-level understanding of AKS, including cluster operations, networking, identity, and security best practices.
  • Proven ability to identify future challenges and proactively design and implement solutions to mitigate risks before they become issues.
  • Deep hands-on experience with containerization (Docker), Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, ArgoCD), and CI/CD automation.
  • Strong understanding of Kubernetes internals, service meshes, networking (CNI), and observability tools.
  • Proven experience in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and proactive problem resolution in Kubernetes environments.
  • Experience leading large-scale Kubernetes platform consolidation or migration projects is a strong plus.
  • Proactive problem solver – capable of anticipating challenges and addressing them before they impact operations.
  • Strong communicator – able to explain complex technical concepts in a clear, accessible way.
  • Strong mentor and technical guide – experienced in mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction across teams.
  • Strategic thinker – capable of shaping a long-term Kubernetes platform roadmap while managing short-term priorities.

What would make you really stand out (Experience Over Certifications):

While certifications are a plus, we value real-world experience more than credentials. That said, these certifications and skills may be beneficial:

  • Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS)
