POSITION DETAILS

The City University of New York (CUNY) is the nation's largest urban public university. The CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY Med), located at the City College of New York (CCNY) in Harlem, is the only medical school in the CUNY system and the only public medical school in Manhattan. Building upon 50 years of success at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, it transitioned to the CUNY School of Medicine in 2017. The school offers an accelerated BS/MD (7-year program) and a Physician Assistant Master's Degree (28-month program). Its mission emphasizes access, opportunity, community transformation, and addressing healthcare disparities, aiming to recruit highly talented, diverse students and train culturally competent health professionals to serve New York's underserved communities.

The CUNY School of Medicine is seeking a Chief Diversity Officer / Title IX Coordinator. This leadership role involves high-level collaboration with campus leaders, faculty, staff, and students to ensure compliance with EEO, sexual harassment, and related laws. The CDO oversees investigations into discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, and promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives across the school. Responsibilities include developing educational programs, guiding policy updates, and fostering an inclusive climate.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Leading on EEO and sexual harassment compliance
  • Serving as Title IX and Section 504 / ADA Coordinator
  • Overseeing investigations related to discrimination and harassment laws
  • Advising administration, faculty, and staff on DEI issues
  • Participating in senior leadership meetings and overseeing employment processes
  • Preparing compliance reports and training the community on policies
  • Collaborating with HR and Legal Affairs to ensure legal compliance
  • Addressing student complaints in partnership with Student Affairs
  • Representing the school in CUNY-wide DEI meetings

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is classified under CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. Candidates must possess a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and at least eight years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor or doctoral degree in a related field
  • Strong understanding of DEI in healthcare and medicine
  • Progressive leadership experience, preferably in higher education or government
  • Experience with EEO/AA regulations and compliance
  • CUNY / CUNYFirst experience preferred

CUNY TITLE: Assistant Administrator

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary ranges from $135,000 to $165,000, commensurate with education and experience. CUNY offers extensive benefits, including health plans, retirement options, tuition waivers, paid time off, and access to campus programs, supporting a vibrant and diverse academic community in New York City.
