No If temporary (or grant funded) position, indicate ending dateDescription of Job Duties and Responsibilities The Campus Visit and High School Junior Admissions Counselor plays a vital role in Fairmont State University's recruitment strategy. This position focuses on recruiting both traditional and nontraditional students, with a specific emphasis on engaging high school juniors and managing on-campus visit programs. The counselor serves as a key point of contact for prospective students and their families, guiding them through the admissions process and coordinating impactful visit experiences. Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Primarily responsible for the recruitment of traditional and nontraditional students to Fairmont State University. The position requires general knowledge of offered academic programs and student activities, public speaking, and providing follow-up assistance to prospective students and families.
  • Works in all aspects of managing the enrollment of all students at Fairmont State University; visits high schools, vocational schools, and community colleges to recruit new students; counsels students and families about academic programs, admissions requirements and procedures, financial aid application process, career goals and course selection; represents Fairmont State University by participating in on and off-campus recruiting events and workshops; assists in the implementation of a strategic recruitment plan to increase student enrollment; makes all necessary arrangements to facilitate travel and meet job obligations.
  • Coordinates campus visits for various individuals and groups including high school students, parents, middle school and elementary school students.
  • Provides input for revisions of departmental brochures and informational/recruiting materials; maintains a thorough knowledge of all academic programs and philosophies in addition to student, faculty and administrative functions; operates a personal computer for data entry and retrieval. Facilitates campus visits, including planning with faculty members as applicable with prospective student interests.
  • Confirms, plans, and follows-up with prospective students when they schedule campus visits.
  • Facilitates monthly Saturday group visit
  • Conducts out-reach to prospective students who have not visited campus in an effort to fill campus visit slots.
  • Serves as primary point of contact for high school Juniors.
  • Helps to create and facilitate high school Junior inquiry and applicant communication plans.
  • Maintains regular communication with high school Juniors, assisting them with the application process.
  • Frequent evening and weekend hours required. Performs related and other duties as necessary and as assigned.
Minimum Required Education Bachelors Degree or experience in lieu of degree Required Licenses and/or Certifications Valid Driver's License Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Must pass background screening
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Must be able to create and maintain a partnership with faculty, staff, and administration.
  • Requires a passion for working with students and the ability to handle rapidly changing deadlines and goals.
  • Excellent active listening, verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong planning and people skills.
  • Ability to multitask and stay organized.
  • Willingness to occasionally travel.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in college admissions
  • Familiarity with college and university programs, majors, admissions requirements and processes, and scholarship and financial aid resources.
  • Banner and CRM experience would be helpful.
